| YICG Adults - Patanjali's Yoga Sutra Series-Oct 1 Start! |
Dear Friends,
This letter is addressed to all who may be interested in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Please share with your friends and family. The Adult class has been running for over 17 years. In the past we have focused on Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads. We have also studied smaller texts like Panchikaranam by Adi Sankaracharya.
Our class starts on Sat, Oct 1st - please make note of the date. This year we will study and reflect upon the teachings of the Yoga Sutras by Sage Patanjali - a beautiful, concise collections of sutras, split into four padas(sections). I continue to be inspired by their elegance and clean structure. We can almost hear Patanjali Maharshi (approx 2000 years ago) on topics that are completely contemporary. I will be covering the first pada - Samadhi Pada. Of course, the dating of this work has many different paths and views!
I have been teaching Yoga Sutras for the past 10 years at 'Om Sweet Om' in Port Washington and have a number of recordings that could serve as introductory talks. In addition, there are some topics covered in detail, with reference to the specific sutra. Please do listen to them, if you get a chance. It is close to 14 hours of recordings and will give you great insight.

Also, I would like us to commit to a 40 day tapas this fall - something very doable so no fear!! Mantra Japa and Meditation. We will review the steps and schedule when we meet. Our past 40 day tapas was extraordinarily transformative.
And in the spring, as we end the first book of the Yoga Sutras - Samadhi Pada, I would like to plan a half day retreat based on the teachings. We will coordinate that together in class. I envision the location as Om Sweet Om, probably Sunday afternoon - 2-5 pm. We will discuss the logistics later.
I recommend this book for the class. Please get it - there is no hurry but sooner than later!
